Which cars can automatically charge?
“Automatic charging” refers to both Autocharge and Plug & Charge. To find out more, see https://support.charge.net.nz/support-hub/automatic-charging
Most CCS vehicles will be able to charge automatically via Autocharge or Plug & Charge.
Autocharge
Unfortunately, we do not have a concrete list of exactly which vehicles are compatible with Autocharge. There is a wide range of EVs available in New Zealand and many factors that influence whether your EV is compatible, such as its make, model, year, software version, and country of manufacture.
Supported
Autocharge works with most CCS vehicles that can be identified by an identifier. If your vehicle is not on the below “not supported” list, it is likely it is supported.
Not Supported
CHAdeMO vehicles (like the Nissan Leaf) are not supported. Some makes also may not support Autocharge on some of their CCS cars.
Some makes with CCS cars that do not currently support Autocharge may support a different automatic charging method, Plug & Charge. This is not currently available for ChargeNet, but is on the ChargeNet roadmap.
Plug & Charge
Supported
Only some manufacturers support the Plug & Charge standard in New Zealand at the moment. Manufacturers that support it are listed below.
Manufacturer/make | Models |
|---|---|
BMW | Recent models support Plug & Charge, older models might not support it, or require a manual software update. Plug-in Hybrids are not yet supported. Contact your dealer for more information. |
MINI | Recent models support Plug & Charge, older models might not support it, or require a manual software update. Plug-in Hybrids are not yet supported. Contact your dealer for more information. |
Not Supported
If your vehicle’s make/model is not on the above list, it is likely that Plug & Charge is not currently supported by the manufacturer in New Zealand. Contact your dealer for more information.
To make it easier, Plug & Charge setup will only show as option if you have set up a vehicle of above make within your account.
